PRAY   CENTRAL   FLORIDA

Dear Fellow Prayer Warrior,                                                                                        August, 2006

Greetings in the name of the Lord. It is election time again and the primaries are right around the corner – September 5th. The general election is Tuesday November 7th. There seems to be a spirit of slumber on the church regarding these elections – one we must throw off! Who WE elect will have a very significant impact on our nation, state and local regions. The governor, US Senate and US House of Representatives races will have a huge impact for our state and nation. If you have prayed for transformation, will you not also vote for it?

Marketplace Focus Groups

The orientation meeting for the Marketplace Focus Groups is Thursday night August 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Florida Christian University, 5950 Lakehurst Drive, Orlando. These groups will encourage, envision and equip people to have an impact for the Kingdom at their place of work. Please call Judy at 407-905-0444 ASAP if you want to come check it out. If you miss this first meeting you can still participate in future meetings, call Judy for details.

Pray Central Florida Jail Ministry Update-Volunteers Needed

We have had teams of people ministering in the Orange and Seminole County jails for almost 5 years now. We teach 11 groups of men, women and juveniles on prayer and experiencing the presence of God and then we spend time in God’s presence, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to our hearts. People are saved, healed emotionally and physically, equipped and encouraged to be the Body of Christ in their jail. We currently have more invitations to minister than we can handle and are praying for a few more people to join our teams. We minister in multi-denominational (Christian), multi-racial and multi-gender teams so no matter who you are this is a great way to learn or progress in ministry. No jail experience is necessary but you must be between 18 and 90, have a solid walk with the Lord and be teachable. Ladies should be 40+ to minister in the men’s meetings. We also partner with churches to help them start or expand their own jail ministries. E-mail George at praycf@juno.com for more information.

Dear Marketplace Leaders:

Sometimes it can get rather lonely trying to cope with the challenges of marketplace.  As new levels of awareness are being directed toward the importance of believers placed in this area, it can become a swirl of information as to our potential and where we land in the mix.  To help establish your mindsets and find direction, Lion's Roar International is partnering with business professionals who understand the trends and how they associate with Christian endeavors for changing times.  Whether you are just beginning in the marketplace, well established with enterprenural background, or a business professional with years of experience, you're welcome!  Perhaps you will have something special to share during the discussion time that will add valuable flavor to the mix and lend support to others.

Our purpose in offering these pilot groups are two-fold:  1)  To establish a foundation in the city for moving into a harvest mentality; 2)  To support those of you already in the labor force and assist you in advancing your call.  An added incentive for these groups will be to consider making them available after the first of the year as ongoing encouragement and backing.  Your participation will help make the decision.

If you are interested in support, please review the attached flyer [editor’s note – the information from the attachment is pasted below this letter] and RSVP ASAP.  Please feel free to ask questions regarding the sessions which, by the way, are free....no fee for any of the sessions.  You can sign up for one, two, three, or all but we ask that you DO respond so we can properly prepare.

We look forward to partnering with you for affecting the city through your gift.

Love Offering will be Received

Blessings to You, Mighty Warriors!

The next Day of Refreshing will be on August 19 at Capdevila's (LaTeresita) Restaurant in Tampa.  We are honored to host Congresswoman Katherine Harris, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

Katherine Harris' name has been regularly in the media over the past few years.  She was the face of the Florida vote re-count during the 2000 presidential elections.  As the Florida Secretary of State, it was her responsibility to preside over the vote re-count, and certify the authenticity of the vote.  This proved to be a watershed moment in modern U.S. history.  In the final analysis, the authority for the election fell upon Katherine's shoulders.

I had not been familiar with her before that time, but something told me she was a strong Believer.  One would have to be supernaturally empowered to stand up under that kind of pressure without totally collapsing.  I was certainly not the only one who spent countless hours in fasting and prayer for her, and for that election.  And the impression about the strength of her faith proved to be on-target -- she is an uncompromising believer who relies solely upon the Lord for her strength.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran into Katherine at a conference.  She began to download a series of confirming signs and wonders that have solidified her resolve to stay in the U.S. Senate race.  There is no question that the Lord has called her to serve Him in elected office.  The challenges she has faced in this race have been unbelievable.  Scandal, staged employee walk-outs with the obligatory press conferences to malign her integrity, a lack of support from the highest Republican party leaders -- these are the elements of soap operas.  But this is not melodramatic theatrical entertainment.  This has been part of the supernatural challenges she has faced ever since she announced her intention to run for this office.  Most recently, she had to undergo surgery to inspect a suspicious mass on her ovary.  Praise God, it proved to be benign.  But this health issue has come at a time when she has had everything in the world thrown as obstacles in her path.  Incredibly, she continues to press on.

The stakes have never been higher for Christians in public service.  Our nation hangs in the balance.  The level of warfare has escalated beyond anything we've ever seen.

Some of you have emailed me with thoughts you've had based on media reports.  These emails have expressed questions that any thinking person would have after watching the news.  There hasn't been condemnation, but certainly questions that beg to be asked -- her seeming inability to work with a cohesive staff, questionable campaign donors who are now facing criminal charges, the lack of support from party leaders, health issues that could possibly affect her ability to offer quality leadership...?

Let me offer this:  Come and hear for yourself what Katherine Harris has to say.

There will be no 10-second sound bites that skew and slant what is actually said.  You will have the opportunity to hear the full story of what is NOT REPORTED.  After speaking with her personally, I can tell you this lady has things to say that are well-worth hearing!  And you will NEVER hear them in the media.  Ever.

Many of our prayer warriors have sensed some rather shocking sub-plots going on under the radar in relation to this particular campaign race.  I brought these up to Katherine in our conversation a couple of weeks ago -- she was so relieved to know that the Lord was uncovering things to those who will pray and hear His voice.  She was also visibly moved to know that there are many in the Body of Christ who have been called to prayer-support believers who are called to public service.  The impressions our warriors had proved to be spot-on.

Prayer Harvest cares deeply about the level of spiritual protection that is offered to our leaders.  We are not concerned with political party affiliation, but rather the integrity of character and a life of holiness.  We are most effective when we offer up informed intercession before the Lord, combining the authority of the Word of God with the calling He places on His people.

Please make your plans to attend this critical meeting.  The cost of $25 includes a delicious Cuban lunch from one of Tampa's most-loved Latin restaurants.  Our meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with powerful prophetic worship.  You will have the opportunity to network with others who are like-minded in their quest to go deeper with the Lord.

Please be in prayer for this profoundly important meeting.  We want every believer who is called to public service to know that the Body of Christ is standing with them in prayer!

See you there, mighty warriors!

(5) Steve Strang endorses Katherine Harris for U.S. Senate

Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2006 23:08:35 EDT

Subject: Katherin Harris for U. S. Senate

Vote for Katherine Harris for U.S. Senate

 By Stephen Strang

For most of my life, Christians have sat on the sidelines when it came to politics.  And why not?  Politics often seemed “dirty” and many candidates who were running weren’t people we felt we could support.  If we voted, it seemed it was usually for “the lesser of two evils.”  And besides, we didn’t think our votes counted anyway.

Add to that the fact that a 1954 law pushed by then-Senator Lyndon Johnson forbids churches from getting involved politically or they might lose their tax-exempt status.  So it was just easier for those of us in the church to do nothing.

All that is now changing.  The reason?  While we did nothing, things got worse and worse in our country.  By our passivity, we allowed “the other side” to pass laws sometimes legalizing things we believe is wrong—gambling is a good example.  Or judges were put into positions in which they didn’t interpret the law, instead they became activists who often found “rights” in state and federal constitutions that were not truly there.

That’s why, after all these years, I’m finally getting involved and I’m working hard to get others involved.  That’s why I’m endorsing Katherine Harris for U.S. Senate here in my home state of Florida.  Thankfully in our democracy, we still have the right to change things at the ballot box, and to me, electing Katherine Harris will help change things.

I believe the very core values that has made America strong—the sanctity of human life, the sacredness of marriage and the family, basic morality, protecting the freedom of our faith—are under vehement attack by those who would like to see a very different America.

Congresswoman Harris’ voting record has been unwaveringly strong and consistent for life, morality, the family, national security and a strong economy while assisting the poor.

Just as important, Katherine never compromises her convictions for political favor or gain.  Now Katherine needs our help in her race for the U.S. Senate.  In my opinion, she is unquestionably the right choice for this seat.  A simple comparison between her and her opponent in the general election, Bill Nelson, should make this choice obvious.

In her previous roles as a state legislator, as secretary of state, and as a congresswoman, Katherine has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us.  Now it’s time to stand with her.  I know her personally, and I know she is a woman of deep faith and strong values.  I sincerely believe she is “one of us” and deserves our support.

            What can you do?

First, you can give.  If you believe in “planting seeds” (as many of us are taught to do in church) then I believe giving to her campaign is planting a seed for a stronger and better America.  Running a campaign is expensive.  Campaign laws forbid corporations from giving and limit individual contributions to $2,100 per person per election. That means a husband and wife can give a total of $4,200 for the primary and that amount again for the general election.

My wife and I are giving the maximum we can.  We are also hosting a fund-raiser for her in Lake Mary—the first time we’ve ever done this for a political candidate.  That’s how much we believe in her candidacy and how much we believe that people who believe like we do must step to the plate financially to offset the huge war chest that Bill Nelson apparently has from liberal interests who want him re-elected.

You may not be able to give the maximum amount, but you can give something and you can persuade your friends to give what they can.  You can go to her campaign website—www.electharris.com—to give online.  You can also get more information on her campaign.

Other Christian leaders are beginning to publicly support her, not in their ministry roles, but as individuals. They include Dr. and Mrs. D. James Kennedy, Randy and Paula White, Kim and Ardell Daniels, Guillermo and Ana Muldonado--all from Florida.  Nationally, Dutch Sheets, Cindy Jacobs, Harry Jackson and others are encouraging those in their sphere of influence to vote for Katherine Harris.

Finally, you can pray.  Since I know her personally, I know of her humility, genuineness and love for America and love for God.  We desperately need people with her experience, intelligence, unwavering integrity and convictions fighting for us in the U.S. Senate.  This is important for the future of this country, for the future of our culture and for the future of our families.

I encourage you to give to her campaign, to get your friends to support her candidacy, and then to vote for her.  She needs our votes in the primary September 5--which I believe she will easily win over her inexperienced and largely unknown rivals—and then again in the general election against Bill Nelson on Nov. 7.

Mayor's Faith-Based and Community Matching Grants
Apply Online

Program Description

In June 2001, the City of Orlando announced a $50,000 pilot program designed to encourage tax exempt, 501(c)(3) faith-based and community organizations to partner with neighborhood organizations, the business community, and the City of Orlando to offer children, youth, or family support programs.  The City assembled a Citizen Advisory Committee of representatives from the local community to develop guidelines and requirements for the program.

Today, this program continues to award matching grants from $5,000 to $10,000 to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations. Eligible organizations applying for a grant must match, at a minimum, the City awarded grant amount. In addition, the grant funded programs must foster community service and volunteerism in one of two categories – character development or civic responsibility.

Character Development

This category includes projects or programs that nurture and support positive character development in children, youth, and families through proven techniques. Character Development involves the enhancement of such traits as patience, respect for others, generosity, integrity, appreciation of diversity, self-discipline, and loyalty. Activities must be scheduled during non-school hours and must include a parental involvement component.

Civic Responsibility

These projects or programs should develop and support civic involvement among children, youth, and families. Civic responsibility involves the enhancement of such traits as fairness, trustworthiness, good citizenship, responsibility, and volunteerism. Activities must be scheduled during non-school hours and must include a parental involvement component.

Who is Eligible?

Faith-Based or Community Organizations that have been designated tax exempt, 501(c)(3), for at least six months (documentation required) having experience managing and implementing children, youth, or family support programs. Qualifying organizations must be located in or provide services within Orlando's city limits. The organization must establish a partnership with a City neighborhood organization to be eligible to apply for the matching grant.

Neighborhood Organizations are defined as homeowners' associations, condominium associations, or residents' associations within Orlando's city limits. These Neighborhood Organizations are listed with the City of Orlando's Office of Neighborhood & Community Affairs. The Neighborhood Organization will need to establish a partnership with an eligible faith-based or community organization to apply for the matching grant.

(10) Enjoy The Coffee

From: JoyJ

Enjoy The Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor.  Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.  Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.  While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.  Be assured that the cup itself, adds no quality to the coffee in most cases, just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... and then began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups.  They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.  Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

God brews the coffee, not the cups..........enjoy your coffee

May the Lord bless you "in deed"

Colossians 3:23 What ever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

FIJI - POWERFUL REVIVAL - Eyewitness Account

-by Gary Schmitz.

I just returned from a 2 week trip to the Island nation of Fiji where

one of the most powerful transforming revivals in the world is

underway.  During my time I attended the Global Transformation

Conference with George Otis, Jr and other world leaders involved

in revivals in their nations.  Many Fijian pastors, tribal chiefs and

government leaders were also in attendance and we heard

tremendous reports from around the world.  God is moving everywhere!

The revival in Fiji has powerfully impacted between 200 and 250

villages and we were able to visit 6 of these villages during our trip.

Hearing the testimonies of chiefs, pastors, village elders and the

ordinary people who have been impacted by this revival was the

most life changing experience of my life.  I will never be the same

and I sense such a fresh renewed passion to see revival here in the

KC region.  The stories are consistant from one end of the islands

to the other.... Villages are on a waiting list for the revival to come

to their region.... A team of 30 - 40 young people with a group

called Healing the Land Team come to the village and begin fasting

and praying for about 2 weeks.  Then a Fijian pastor named Chief

Vuniyani brings the revival team in to teach the gospel.  The Holy

Spirit brings conviction and then there is an outpouring of

repentence, brokenness, reconciliation of families, churches and

relationships.  They typically have a bonfire to burn all occult and

witchcraft and other materials and then the glory of God comes to

every village with signs and wonders following.  Tremendous

quantities of fish return to once barren waters, fruit and vegetables

begin growing in abundance and unprecedented size, poisoned

streams have become crystal pure overnight, coral reefs are being

restored, dozens of new species of fish and coral (with no names)

are appearing, there are physical healings, gentle healing rainfall

returns to drought stricken lands, there is extraordinary academic

improvement among children, etc. etc. etc. etc.....  I could go on

and on and on with stories.  Had I not been there and heard the

stories over and over I would think this is impossible.... but as you

all know, with God, NOTHING is impossible.  I have now stood in

villages living under an open heaven.  I have witnessed and felt the

spirit of revival.  I have seen the joy of God on faces and smiles

bigger than the full moon!

The government is being transformed and the laws of the nation

are being rewritten to align with Biblical values.  There is wonderful

unity and reconcilation among churches across the land and

healing between native Fijians and Indo-Fijians.  I was deeply

moved as I interviewed numerous men and women who had

experienced fresh powerful transforming revival in their personal

lives and in their families.  The joy of the Lord was so contagious.

I think I got infected!

I hope we can all fall on our faces and cry out to God

with desperate prayers that He would send a great revival and

spiritual awakening to the KC region.  Please Lord do this here!  I

have come home with a new sense of urgency.  We cannot wait

another 2 years or 10 years.... I believe our city is ripe for

breakthrough into revival.

If it is in God's great heart to send a revival to Fiji, Uganda,

Almolonga Guatemala, Cali Columbia, the Arctic region, Kenya,

Argentina, etc. and etc. then it seems implausible to me that He

would not desire to send revival to Kansas City!  I discerned 4

common threads over and over in the Fiji villages and in reports

from revivals in the other nations mentioned above...here they are:

1.  Prayer with Fasting is always there

2.  An Outpouring of Unity among pastors and leaders

3.  2 Chronicles 7:14 appears to be the prescription:  "If My people

who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and

turn from their evil ways...then I will hear from heaven and will heal

their land...."  Humility, prayer, deep repentance, turning to God in

faith, then God responds with powerful revival every time!

4.  There is always DESPERATION for God.

Is there anything on this list that we cannot offer to God here?

Please join in where people are thirsting for these same principles

and longing for revival.  I dream of the day God comes and makes

history in our city.  What will it look like to live in the days of

transforming revival in your life and in your community?
