PRAY   CENTRAL   FLORIDA

Dear Fellow Prayer Warrior,                                                                           January, 2007

Greetings in the name of the Lord. Did you make any New Years resolutions? Did you set any BHAGs for your life and ministry? That means Big Hairy Audacious Goals – don’t laugh, I heard it at a major pastors conference a few years ago. That works mentality can be hard to break because it is so ingrained in our culture. The real question I want to ask is have you spent a significant amount of quality time seeking God for His plans and strategies for your life and ministry? I recently heard Luis Palau say that long ago he stopped making plans and asking God to bless them. Instead he waits on the Lord until he gets His plans because then there is no doubt they will be blessed.

Sanctity of Life Sunday is January 21st this year. This is always the Sunday nearest the anniversary of Roe v Wade and is a good opportunity to raise awareness and prayer in our churches. A web site with resources for the day is www.lutheransforlife.org, and www.family.org has pro-life info.

Pray Central Florida Jail Ministry 2006 report

This was a fantastic year with at least 81 first time commitments to the Lord and over 132 meetings (we have 11 to 13 a month now). While I love that we had a part in so many people coming to Christ my best memories are of individual faces. When I close my eyes I can see their frowns changing to big smiles when they gave their lives to the Lord. And to think all this is just a bonus! Our "main" focus is on prayer and leading each group into the presence of God. It is not teaching, preaching or evangelism, but seeking God's face. As we get into God's presence He uses whoever He wants (often including inmates) to do whatever He wants. This often includes teaching, preaching and evangelism but also includes prophetic art (Seminole), prophetic song, deep worship, repentance, physical and emotional healing, deep and profound peace, and joy. We have seen that God is able to do anything He wants with or without us and my most fervent prayer as leader is often that I would see what He is doing so I don't mess it up by doing something else. When we are able to lead a group to that place of welcoming and yielding to the Spirit of God, He ALWAYS changes lives and it is truly a beautiful thing. Anyone (18 or over) is welcome to come in with us once and experience it first hand. We also need more men and women on our teams. Contact George Kern for details.

We have so many testimonies from our Schools, Seminars and Weekends. It is amazing how God can bring revelation and healing when we spend time listening to Him. Father God is so in the business of restoring hearts and healing His children. It is a great pleasure for us to be a part of the process.

Here is just one testimony that we wanted to share with you.

"I always knew since becoming a born again Christian, that God loves me and accepts me just as I am. I didn't realize how much of this was just head knowledge for me. I realize now that I had only a small inkling of this in my heart. Soaking in His presence has secured me and grounded me in His passion for me, and all of His children. He really does love me! He even likes me!"

(7) PRAYER CONFERENCE WITH JOHN FRANKLIN – in Gainesville January 16th

From: LindaviD96@aol.com

To: praycf@juno.com

Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2007 11:46:02 EST

Subject: Fwd: Not just for Baptists - for all Pastors and all Believers

George,

Here is another flyer that has been circulating for the conference...thank you for any help you can give in getting the word out.  There is a group of us from Brevard that are carpooling over to the conference.

Persistently prevailing,

Linda Bemis

Why do we need this conference?  The major common denominator everywhere Christianity marches forward, is that the Christians spend significant time praying together. We have all heard how the churches in Korea & China meet every morning to pray together for at least an hour before going to work, and that they have all night prayer meetings one or two times a week.

Pastor John Franklin in his new book, "And the Place was Shaken" says..."In America, we still practice the ministry of the Word. It is the centerpiece in most worship services. Outstanding radio teachers can be heard anywhere in the country. Our churches have the finest. However, by in large we have abandoned meaningful prayer meetings. Most that remain are anemic & weak. This begs the question, might there be a connection? Could we be spiritually imploding because we've forsaken what the Apostles guarded as one of their top two priorities?"

He goes on to say, "We must make our ministry of mobilizing our people of God to pray together an equal priority with preaching and teaching the Word of God. I used to think that the reason the early church had such power with God was because they practiced missions and evangelism. I assumed the cause of their power with God in Acts stemmed from their obedience to be on mission with Him. I no longer believe that.

I now believe their practice of missions and evangelism with the effect of their power with God. I am not advocating we do nothing to encourage missions and evangelism, but I am saying the emphasis of leading should fall on shepherding God's people. If the heart's soil is fertilized, the stalk of service quickly sprouts."

Why do we need this Conference?  We need this Conference in order to return to God's Priority for The Church!  "My house shall be a house of PRAYER!"

And the Place Was Shaken: How to Lead a Powerful Prayer Meeting

Author: John Franklin

Prayer for the church is not a casual practice but communion between Christ and His body that is as intimate as communion between a husband and a wife. And for the church, corporate prayer is not an optional ritual but a commanded expectation. However, having an effective corporate experience of prayer-whether in a large congregational setting or a small group-depends on many factors. John Franklin highlights not only the theology behind powerful corporate prayer times but also the effective habits and practices of a praying church. Know why God especially requires corporate prayer.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"John Franklin has a clear view of the local church & God's call to prayer.
As a pastor, he has an insightful word for today's churches....
a word that needs to be heard & heeded. . .
getting in touch with the God of Heaven, seeking His will for the people and places to which He sends us and joining Him in the work He gives us to do.
"May our Churches be Shaken"!"
Rick Shepherd,
Fl. Baptist Convention

"And the Place was Shaken" is God-focused and brings churches to the Savior, not just a program format. "I cannot imagine a more timely and urgently needed resource. This tool has a wonderful balance of biblical principle and practical application. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to every leader with any responsibility for guiding prayer!"
Gregory Frizzell
Prayer & Spiritual Awakening Specialist
Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma

It has well been said that prayer can do anything that God can do. I am grateful for John Franklin''s wonderful book, And the Place Was Shaken. As a pastor for many years, I have struggled with the subject of leading powerful prayer meetings. This book will be an asset to pastors such as I, and Christian leaders everywhere. I am happy to commend it."
Adrian Rogers, Pastor Emeritus
Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, Tennessee

"I know of no one better than this author to speak to the subject of prayer. He not only is capable of writing on this ministry, but he has been very effective in leading our prayer ministry here at Woodstock''s First Baptist Church. You will be challenged and instructed in this excellent book."
Johnny Hunt, Pastor
First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia

(8) From “Intercessors For America” - GOD USES CHILDREN IN PRAYER, CHURCHES IN LONDON PRAY NON-STOP IN 2007, STUDY: VIOLENT VIDEO GAME EFFECTS LINGER IN BRAIN, LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 110TH CONGRESS, SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION UNDERWAY IN MIDDLE EAST

GOD USES CHILDREN IN PRAYER

Lenny and Tracy LaGuardia have led thousands of children into a deeper walk with God through their work at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, USA. They help children to hear the voice of God and act based on that. The result is not just many children's prayer initiatives for cities and nations, but also an outpouring of miraculous healings. The children have seen answered prayers, miracles, and healings, and as a result developed a steady faith that God is listening to them and working through them.

Donna Edwards is the choir teacher of the IHOP kids, but post-polio syndrome forced her to walk on crutches for several years until the kids prayed over her for 45 minutes one night. Edwards said, "I was able to totally lay down my crutches." Thirty kids were marching around her, praying.

Jackson Bohlender suffered from so many food allergies, that he was really crippled in what he could eat. But after a solid year of the IHOP kids praying for him faithfully, he visited his doctor for new tests. He said, "About half my food allergies - the big ones - were non-existent. I could eat everything."

Dalton Burge of Christ Triumphant Church went up to pray for two visitors suffering with abscessed teeth, who thought it was kind of cute, but then they started feeling their mouths, and both of them had gotten healed.

Lenny LaGuardia says Christian parents need to expect that their children have real encounters with God. "I would say to parents, look beyond the external to the eternal. Don't just see them as children. See their destinies in hand."

CBN produced a video about the various children's prayer initiatives in the United States, which can be viewed online:

CHURCHES IN LONDON PRAY NON-STOP IN 2007

Around 100 church leaders from various denominations across London, United Kingdom, are planning for a huge 24/7 prayer initiative next year. 'A Year for London' is the brainchild of pastor Jonathan Oloyede of Glory House, one of the largest Pentecostal churches in the city. His dream is to unite in continuous prayer for transformation every day of 2007 and he is being supported by Nicky Gumbel at Holy Trinity Brompton, who is urging all of the churches running Alpha to take part.

"Our vision is to see the church united every single hour of every single day saying 'Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done.' If we can say that prayer 365 times in the Spirit then something has to change in this city," says Oloyede.

Each Friday will be set apart as a special day of both prayer and voluntary fasting. One of the highlights of the year of prayer for London will be a massive prayer and worship rally to be held at West Ham (Upton Park) Stadium on Pentecost Sunday. 'A Year for London' is part of a long-term prayer initiative for the city called London Prayer Net (www.londonprayer.net, Christian Today, 12/19/06).

STUDY: VIOLENT VIDEO GAME EFFECTS LINGER IN BRAIN
U.S. video game industry revenue $13 billion

CHICAGO, Illinois -- Teens who play violent video games show increased activity in areas of the brain linked to emotional arousal and decreased responses in regions that govern self-control, a study released on Tuesday found. The children, with no history of behavior problems, ranged in age from 13 to 17. Half played a shooter game called "Medal of Honor: Frontline," involving military combat, while the other group played a nonviolent game called "Need for Speed: Underground."

The video game industry, with revenue rivaling Hollywood box office sales, is at the center of a cultural battle over violent content. Lawmakers' various attempts to ban the sale of violent video games to children have been blocked by courts in Louisiana, Illinois, California. Michigan and Minnesota. (Reuters)

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 110TH CONGRESS
Pray, contact your representatives in 2007

We're now in the "calm before the storm." In just a few days (January 3) the new Congress will meet. When they do, Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, and their allies will begin their fresh assault on everything from abstinence programs, to the child tax credit, to the Pledge of Allegiance.

The drive to fund the killing of human embryos will gain steam. Advocates of thought-control hate- crimes laws will press their case, and liberal leaders like Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton will be listening - and anxious to please them. SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION UNDERWAY IN MIDDLE EAST
Record number of ex-Muslims celebrated Christmas this year

More Muslims converted to faith in Jesus Christ over the past decade than at any other time in human history. A spiritual revolution is underway throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. As a result, a record number of ex-Muslims celebrated Christmas this year, despite intense persecution, assassinations, and widespread church bombings.

Joel C. Rosenberg, while living in the Middle East, interviewed more than three dozen Arab and Iranian pastors and evangelical leaders throughout the region. The picture they paint is one of Christianity being dramatically resurrected in the region of its birth.

Some Examples:

IRAQ
- More than 5,000 new Muslim converts to Christianity have been identified since the end of major combat operations, with 14 new churches opened in Baghdad, and dozens of new churches opened in Kurdistan, some of which have 500 to 800 members. Also, more than 1 million Bibles shipped into the country since 2003, and pastors report Iraqis are snatching them up so fast they constantly need more Bibles.

EGYPT - Some reports say 1 million Egyptians have trusted Christ over the past decade or so. The largest Christian congregation in the Middle East meets in an enormous cave on the outskirts of Cairo. Some 10,000 believers worship there every weekend. A prayer conference the church held in May 2005 drew some 20,000 believers.

AFGHANISTAN - Only 17 Muslim converts to Christianity before 9/11/01, but now more than 10,000. Dozens of baptisms every week.

IRAN - In 1979, there were only 500 known Muslim converts to Christianity, but today Iranian pastors and evangelical leaders say there are more than 1 million Iranian believers in Jesus Christ, most of whom meet in underground house churches. (Excerpted from updates by Joel C. Rosenberg)

IRAQI CHRISTIANS FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES

The Christians of the Iraqi city of Mosul are scared to put festive decorations outside their homes this year. Their ancestors settled here in the 1st century AD, yet as teacher Jamal Fadi has discovered, some of their Muslim neighbors want this Christmas to be their last.

"A letter was delivered to my door with two bullets placed on top of it," said Fadi, 32. "It said: 'Leave, crusaders, or we will cut your heads off.'" Iraq's Christian minority fears that al-Qaeda-backed zealots want to end 1,500 years of coexistence with an onslaught of ethnic cleansing. (Sunday Telegraph-UK)

"WHAT is TRUE REVIVAL? -

THE WELSH REVIVAL of 1904-5"

-by Chris 'Prayintongues'.

"Revival is a community saturated with God," said revivalist

Duncan Campbell. And so it was in Wales. Reports speak of "an

overwhelming sense of God's presence and holiness at home, at

work, in shops," even in hotel bars!

Powerful conviction of sin follows. "Many lay flat on the ground in

agony of conviction." In one meeting sinners "fell in a heap and

cried out pitifully and loudly for mercy."

Such conviction triggers off intense prayer and repentance before

God, but also confession and restitution towards man: "the most

remarkable confessions of sin, confessions that must be costly."

Respectable church members and leaders publicly confessed sin

hidden deep in the hearts. This results in long-standing debts

being paid, stolen goods returned, church and family feuds being

healed, and enemies reconciled.

Outside of work-hours, worship, praise, prayer, Bible reading,

fellowship--these become the Christian's whole life. Meetings

couldn't be closed and went on all night. Men came in their work

clothes with their next day's lunch packed. Prayer meetings were

held in mines, trains, trams, and businesses. Shops sold out of Bibles.

Great numbers of people become Christians. In Wales: "70,000 in

two months, 85 thousand in five, and more than 100,000 in half a

year." By the end of the Revival, 90 percent of the people of Wales

were attending church.

In some Welsh districts, drunkenness halved, bars went bankrupt,

police had nothing to do, courts had no cases to try. Social

problems disappeared. But one statistic rose slightly--that of

insanity. Could it have been among those who endlessly resisted

conviction of sin?

So the nation is changed. Its values become Christian. But do

Revivals last? Dr Edwin Orr says the Welsh Revival was maintained

till the outbreak of war--WW1--in 1914. When he investigated the

effect of the Revival in 1935--thirty years after--he found that

Revival

converts were "the choicest segment of church life." These converts

were now the elders and ministers of the church right across the

nation.

Many now look on this Revival as a prototype Revival--a model for

all others. Yet the fact is there was one other feature of this Revival

that persisted until Orr published his favourable findings. The

Revival was criticised almost out of existence. For decades it was

considered "much ado about nothing because of its emotionalism"

(Dr Eiffion Evans).

(10) The Dreamer

The Dreamer

A story is told of a man who had engaged in riotous living for many years.  He was a drunkard.  And then one evening at a tent meeting Gospel Revival, he came forward to be washed in the name of Jesus and was born again. Soon after, his former drinking buddies who thought it strange that he no longer ran with the pack, would heckle and ridicule him each morning on the corner as he passed by on his way to work.

This went on for several weeks, until one day, his wife found out about it! She
followed him from a distance and heard the chant of one of his former friends saying, There goes that dreamer!”

After he had passed by, they glanced over to see the wife coming straight toward them! "Sirs, may I speak to you?” she asked. “That man who just passed by is my husband! He used to be a drunkard. He used to spend all of the money he made on whiskey. Sometimes he would come home late at night after drinking with some of you, and he would hit he. I spent most of the time crying.  My children didn't have one decent pair of shoes between them or any nice clothes to wear to school, and we were behind on most of our bills. There was rarely any food in the house. We were near the point of despair.  It was then that I began to pray as never before!”

“Then, at a local tent meeting, a marvelous thing happened! My husband heard a message of hope and deliverance and responded by faith and repentance in obedience to the invitation of Christ! And that man who was once enslaved by alcohol and in bondage to sin was buried with Christ in baptism and arose from that watery grave a FREE man - to walk in newness of life! The shackles were gone!"

"Today, my children have new shoes and new clothes! We were able to catch up on our bills. Our pantry and refrigerator are full and there is always enough to eat. He is home every night spending quality time with the children and me.  We actually enjoy being around him now, and we do things together. We are finally a family!"

"So, I want to ask you to do something for me. If this man is dreaming, whatever you do,
don’t wake him up!"

What a difference Christ can make in one’s life!

“If anyone is IN CHRIST, he is a NEW CREATION! The former things have passed away, BEHOLD all things have become new!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

He can make a difference in YOUR life if you will allow Him.  He WILL make a difference if you will believe in Him (Acts 16:30-31) and trust Him, repent of your sins (Acts 17:30-31), confess Him before men (Romans 10:9-10), be baptized (immersed) in His name for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16), and continue to follow Him for the rest of your life (1 John 1:7).

Remember, some dreams DO come true!
